Lite Service Design Means More Flexibility
One thing that might surprise people is that there’s not one typical client when it comes to interior design, at least in the projects I take on. And I love that. It’s part of what keeps my work interesting — the people I engage with, their goals and challenges, needs and wants.
Some people come to me with a very clear vision (and a very extensive Pinterest board), while others give me a problem to solve, their spare set of keys, a budget and off I go to get creative. On every project, I have so much fun getting to know the client and building trust so that together, whatever their level of input or involvement, we can create a space they love living in.
It's obvious that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to design—after all, everyone has their own taste (try selling a modern maximalist on Tudor cottagecore!) But what I’ve learned through my over 15 years of experience is that there needs to be flexibility when it comes to the design process as well.
At LKD, our main offering is full service interior design. For me, this means being involved from start to finish, from inspiration to project management to styling to capturing those envy-inducing photos of the final product. But one thing our team would often hear when meeting with potential clients was their desire for a service that would allow interior design clients to work with us on a smaller scale. We thought this was a great idea, so we created our Lite Service Design.
Our Lite Service Design is an incredible option for those who want to work with us, but don’t necessarily need the full service design experience. With Lite Service Design, we create a whole package for the client. We can meet with them in person or virtually to understand the space they’re working with and what they’re hoping to achieve. We put the whole look together and source product (and order it if it’s not available for the client to order). Our client is then able to execute the project in their own time, with their own preferred partners and contractors. We can also recommend contractors, depending on the location, and connect our senior designers with the client’s project team should they have any questions about technical drawings or plans. When the work is completed, we come into the space to help with finishing touches and final styling. And to capture gorgeous, envy-inducing social content, of course.
Our Lite clients choose this service because it allows them to get that signature LKD look they love but gives them the flexibility to tackle their interior design projects in their own time and with their own contractors. It can also be a more cost-effective way to achieve that impeccably designed look. Whether you choose to come in under budget or use the savings to splurge on the really fancy fixtures is up to you. As our most budget-friendly service, it makes interior design accessible to clients who may have previously thought it out of reach. It’s also a favourite option for builders and real estate developers who would like a design package for re-sale purposes.
We love it because it allows us to flex our styling and design skills, while opening up the world of interior design—being involved at the beginning and end of the process only, rather than the day to day, means we can take on clients absolutely anywhere.

We worked with a wonderful family in Burlington to turn much-used spaces into much-loved ones. We created a whole design package for them to transform their kitchen and mudroom/laundry room into warm, inviting and functional spaces, designing pretty and practical custom millwork in warm walnut tones. Thoughtful touches like open shelving that allowed the clients to display their ceramics, while offering easy grab-and-go access to dishes really add to the ambiance. This space is made so special by all the small details that really bring it together and bring it to life, like durable porcelain countertops with warm tones that complement the wood, gorgeous gold fixtures that add extra elegance and character and paint in the most perfect pistachio green. After we put the whole look together, the clients’ executed the project at their own pace. And you can see from the final, finished product that though they selected the Lite Service Design package, they didn’t sacrifice anything when it came to results.
